Mariculture System

Botryllus schlosseri has been grown here at Hopkins Marine Station for over twenty-nine years now. A dedicated team has fine-tuned the procedures to the point whereby highly crossbred individuals can still be raised to maturity. These homozygotic individuals can then be used in fusion/rejection studies where the result is known ahead of time allowing for detailed study of this phenomenon, as well as many other genetically dictated biological processes.
